Italian community collaborates with Lavazza to redesign coffee capsules

The People’s Design Lab is inspired by the community of Capannori in Italy who researched what was in their waste and found hundreds of unrecyclable Lavazza capsules. They estimated that a billion go to landfill each year in Italy.   So they contacted Lavazza and, instead of having a good go at the company, they started to work with them and other coffee manufacturers to help find solutions

Knowing what is in our waste and why is vital to reducing it and driving towards a circular economy. At present there’s no feedback loop between what we consume, what we manufacture and the waste our products create.   The People’s Design Lab creates this feedback loop, giving consumers a voice, examining the evidence and providing a platform for creative, collaborative solutions.
